I got off the E train today, at 5th Ave 53rd St. Usually there is a ton of people trying to turn around the corner and walk up the stairs to the next platform. Today, I turned the corner and noticed a small open box, next to the trash. As I walked closer, still shoulder to shoulder with the other commuters, I saw inside the box; a few tiny shivering baby rats. Someone had found them. Someone had placed them in the box. Near the trash. I climbed up the stairs.
